…recorded last november in Tony’s attic space the Friday before the national elections. We recorded some interesting sounds but in the end the fever of politics took over and we soon descended into meaningless although spirited discussion about it. I have since tried to erase any taint of politics from the memory of my experience with engaging lyrics such as:

you handed me a cup

I filled it up

Jack added three lines which I speak

strands of birds, robber shoes, squiggly

I worked up a long convoluted tail for the last part and stuck it on, then kicked it back to Tony as he considers what to do, if anything with this.

Tony (https://soundcloud.com/walltone), as far as I know, recorded this long ago (couple years maybe, possibly longer). I added some percussion, udu, kalimba, frame drum, clapping etc… also a couple voice takes of what I thought he might be saying. He never wrote me lyrics, so my vocal accompaniment might be lacking. Update: I spoke with Tony about the lyrics and there is a discrepancy between what I heard him to say and what was actually said…

Anyway, I’m easily amused by this.

Guitar and (tony) vocals started out as a Tascam 388 recording to be sure. (My) Layering was done in Garageband, I did most of the sound engineering the way I mic’d things (EVN/D767a), after that, it’s pretty much a straight up layered recording with not a lot of process. Mostly, with the added percussion I was trying to add deep resonance to accompany those same tones of his Martin guitar (I think he’s using his martin in an open G er….em, plus I could not tease out the vocals from the guitar as they were given to me mixed. Update :
Klaas, otherwise known as Tronte here on SC, suggested I bring up the percussion additions, so I did that best I could and we have the thing before us. Last time, I promise.

The track image reminds me of one of my favorite music for cassette rotation while making art, the Latin Playboys. Tony bought for me this signed poster, it hangs in the playroom. I missed the show.

After the rush of the new year and gatherings with friends and family you may have realized that someone important was overlooked, maybe someone you wanted to see but couldn’t for some reason? I know, you could send them one of these pretty good CDs, after a couple listens I’m sure the lucky person will have long forgotten your insensitive negligence !!
